August 7th, 2016

Everyone is invited to help launch a new community wellness program. Our kick-off for this fun, free and family friendly wellness program is August 11, 2016 beginning at 5:30pm and continuing until 8pm. The event will be held at the Portneuf Wellness Complex. Along with guest speaker, Kyle Cochran, American Ninja Warrior, the first challenge, Step Up, will be introduced and attendees will have a chance to participate in additional fitness challenges.

Our local Gold’s Gym staff is setting up an America Ninja Warrior themed obstacle course and will host a free Zumba class at 7:30pm. Along with listening to a wonderful speaker and doing a bit of Zumba, attendees are free to enjoy the other obstacles and challenges set up around the Complex. Challenges are specifically designed to show parents and children how easy it is to be active, regardless of cost or equipment. As an added bonus, Portneuf Health Trust will raffle off a FitBit activity tracker and one lucky individual who has reached their 10,000 Step goal for the day will win a pair of concert tickets. You must be present to win.

During our launch party, members of the community will have an opportunity to sign-up to be a part of the Community Wellness Program. It is a simple and fun way to become part of a health-minded community at absolutely no cost. The program will offer motivational support and various exercise challenges to help engage the community in wellness. By addressing physical activity and good nutrition with easy monthly challenges, the Community Wellness Program attempts to make healthier behavior a fun part of everyday life.

“The challenges will be simple activities like walking and minutes of exercise. We hope to show people how easy it is to be more active regardless of cost,” said Rochelle Tharp, Community Health Coordinator.

The Program will communicate with participants using the Facebook group page, www.facebook.com/groups/communitywellnessprogram and ShapeLink will be used to track physical activity and challenges. You can participate in the Portneuf Health Trust challenges on ShapeLink as well as create your own challenges.

Portneuf Health Trust’s mission is to enhance and improve health in Southeast Idaho. The Community Wellness Program seeks to promote wellness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
