Nephrology and Dialysis Services
A Nephrologist specializes in the treatment of diseases that affect the kidneys. Your kidneys have several vital functions, including:
- Removing waste and excess fluid from the blood
- Maintaining your body’s electrolyte balance
- Releasing hormones with functions such as managing blood pressure
At Portneuf, our Nephrology team specializes in providing care and medical management for patients with some of the most complex medical needs including: kidney failure, chronic kidney disease and end stage kidney disease, difficult to manage high blood pressure, pre- and post-transplant, and cardiorenal syndrome.
Our medical director of Nephrology has years of experience managing both inpatient and outpatient dialysis care, and is able provide experienced, high-quality kidney care close to home.
Portneuf will continue its excellence in inpatient dialysis services and will extend that care by offering outpatient follow up appointments with Dr. Cline.
Dialysis is needed when you develop end stage kidney failure; usually by the time you lose about 85 to 90 percent of your kidney function and have a GFR of <15.
When your kidneys fail, dialysis keeps your body in balance by removing waste, salt and extra water to prevent them from building up in the body, keeping a safe level of certain chemicals in your blood, such as potassium, sodium and bicarbonate and helping to control blood pressure.
At Portneuf Nephrology, we are able to provide high quality dialysis care to help patients live healthy, happy lives.
