Orthopedic Trauma

Orthopedic Trauma

As a complement to our level 2 trauma center, Portneuf Medical Center’s trauma team includes an orthopedic traumatolgist. Orthopedic traumatologists care for patients with severe injury to part of the musculoskeletal system often as a result of vehicular and industrial accidents, slips, falls or sports injuries as they offer more advanced orthopedic care for more acute injuries. An injury to the skeletal or muscular system can change a person’s life, function and mobility. Often, these injuries require the unique expertise of an orthopedic trauma physician.

What is Orthopedic Trauma?

Orthopedic trauma is a branch of orthopedic surgery specializing in problems related to the bones, joints, and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) of the entire body following trauma. Trauma injuries requiring the special care that an orthopedic trauma physician can offer, varies significantly; from hairline fractures, to multiple broken bones and ligaments. Our orthopedic trauma physician has one goal in mind when treating this kind of trauma - to restore the function of the injured body part(s) as quickly and effectively as possible.
