For this reason, take time to learn the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and talk with your doctor about personalized risk.<\/p>\n\nWhat is Breast Cancer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\nSimply put, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/cancer\/breast\/index.htm\">breast cancer<\/a> is a disease where cells in the breast grow out of control. While it can begin in different parts of the breast, most breast cancers begin in the lobules (glands that produce milk) or ducts (tubes that carry milk) and can be considered invasive, meaning it has the potential to spread throughout the body, or non-invasive.<\/p>\n\nThese most common invasive types of breast cancer are:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n\t<li>Invasive lobular carcinoma \u2013 Cancer cells spread from the lobules to nearby breast tissues.<\/li>\n\t<li>Invasive ductal carcinoma \u2013 Cancer cells grow outside the ducts into other breast tissue areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\nDuctal carcinoma in situ<\/em> (DCIS) is non-invasive and considered to be an early stage of breast cancer. Here, cancer cells are present only in the lining of the ducts and have not spread to other breast tissues. If you are diagnosed with DCIS, you are at a higher risk of developing a new breast cancer or having the cancer return at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n\nWho is at Risk to Develop Breast Cancer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\nTwo of the main risk factors for breast cancer include being a woman and age, as most breast cancers are found in women and men who are age 50 or older. According to many health experts, including the U.S. Centers for Disease\u00a0Control and Prevention\u00a0(CDC)\u00a0and the American Academy of Pediatrics\u00a0(AAP), the answer is yes, and here are several\u00a0ways\u00a0to\u00a0help\u00a0keep you and your baby\u00a0safe and\u00a0healthy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n1.\u00a0Practice safe measures while interacting with your baby.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\nAs the optimal source\u00a0of nutrition for most infants, breast milk provides a number of important antibodies that help protect babies\u00a0from infection, and according to AAP, infants who are breastfed are less likely to experience severe respiratory symptoms when sick. Furthermore, interruption of or halting\u00a0breastfeeding can lead to a heightened risk for your baby to become ill due to the absence\u00a0of immune support.\u00a0Therefore, experts advise continuing\u00a0to nourish your child through breastfeeding with proper precautions, including\u00a0always\u00a0washing\u00a0your hands with soap and water before and\u00a0after touching your baby or, when on the go,\u00a0using\u00a0hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\nAt this time, studies have not found the presence of\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0virus\u00a0in breast milk, but if you have been exposed to\u00a0coronavirus,\u00a0wear a mask or cloth face covering around your baby and\u00a0practice good\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/prevention.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">physical distancing measures<\/a>\u00a0from others.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n2. For instance, the H1N1\u00a0flu virus\u00a0causes\u00a0fever, chills, cough and body aches.
