Portneuf Medical Center is pleased to announce Colten Boyd, RN as a DAISY Award honoree. One nurse is selected for this prestigious award each quarter based on nominations from patients, patients’ families, or staff. Colten works on our medical/surgical unit and has been recognized by hospital leaders as an exceptional nurse. His DAISY Award nomination came from a patient he cared for earlier this spring:
First off, I want it understood that I believe that doctors, nurses, CNAs and staff have all been professional and caring, but having said that, I believe Colten is a standout among the others. He’s patient, even when rushed, and takes the time to explain what’s being done and why. He paid particular attention to my comfort, making sure the sheets under me were clean and straight. He checked my water to ensure it was fresh. I needed a screw in my glasses tightened, and he found a screwdriver for me. Once I again, I think everyone who cared for me is great, but is the exceptional attention to detail that sets Colten apart from the rest.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) During Pat’s eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to Pat, but to everyone in his family. So one of the goals they set in creating a foundation in Pat’s memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make
an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the superhuman work they do every day.
DAISY Award honorees personify Portneuf’s remarkable patient experience. Colten demonstrates excellence through his clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. He is an outstanding role model among our nurses.
