Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) invites the community to get a hands-on look at robotic surgery during our Meet the Robot event featuring the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 30 from 4 – 6 pm in the Portneuf Medical Center conference center, which is accessed through the main entrance. This event is free and open to community members of all ages.
During this interactive experience, attendees will have the opportunity to see the da Vinci 5 robot in action through live demonstrations and a guided presentation by Portneuf general surgeons Dr. Jorge De Amorim Filho and Dr. Drew McRoberts. They will share insights into how robotic-assisted surgery has transformed patient care by improving precision, recovery times and outcomes.
Attendees will be able to step up to the robot and try their own hand at operating the robotic system to do small tasks, such as unwrapping candy. This unique opportunity is designed to give participants a firsthand understanding of how surgeons use advanced technology to perform complex procedures.
PMC has had da Vinci robot technology since 2011 when the da Vinci Si robot was acquired. Since then, the robotic surgery program has expanded. PMC has several da Vinci robots, including the da Vinci 5, which is the newest. Da Vinci robotic technology is utilized across several surgical specialties, including general, gynecological, thoracic, urological, bariatric and vascular surgery.
The expansion of the robotic surgery program at PMC is reflected in an increased commitment to quality. PMC is proud to be recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence. The SRC is a third-party organization that recognizes programs based on independently verified standards for surgical quality, patient outcomes and clinical practices. Portneuf also holds accreditations as Centers of Excellence for hernia surgery, minimally-invasive surgery and breast surgery.
