The Nurse Residency Program

The Portneuf Medical Center Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence-based initiative designed to support newly licensed RNs as they move from academia to clinical practice. Rooted in standards from the ANCC and ANA, our year-long program provides structure, mentorship, and hands-on skill development to empower nurses from day one.

Our mission is to cultivate strong, compassionate, and highly capable nurses who are ready to lead change and elevate patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Nursing student must have graduated or will be graduating from an accredited school of nursing prior to cohort start.
  • The program is open to new RNs within their first 12 months of nursing.
  • The candidate must successfully pass the NCLEX to remain in the program
  • Willingness to participate in all the program components
  • Certification per the department guidelines

Nurse Intern Program

Our Nurse Intern Program is designed for nursing students in their final year, offering real-world clinical experience and a smooth transition from student to professional nurse. Interns work alongside experienced preceptors to develop clinical skills, strengthen critical thinking, and prepare for practice after graduation.

  • Intern Focus Shifts that emphasize patient care, safety, and evidence-based practice

Requirements:

  • Final-year nursing student in good academic standing
  • Idaho Board of Nursing approval letter
  • Minimum 20 hours per month commitment
  • Transition to a graduate nurse role within 30 days of graduation
