Managing Your Medical Care

Remember the days when your employer paid the entire cost of your health insurance? Or when you could go to the doctor or dentist and not worry about any residual bills after your insurance paid the claim? As nice as those days were, they are long gone. With more of the burden of the cost of health care falling on the consumer, we can no longer be amateurs in the world of benefits, networks, copays and deductibles. Becoming a savvy patient to manage your healthcare and your healthcare costs doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to commit your benefits package to memory. Really it’s more about knowing just a few details of your coverage and then knowing which questions to ask. A few simple tricks can help you take control of your healthcare and get you healthier, faster and for less money. I will be hosting the next Red Hot Mamas seminar on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. The seminar, “Managing Your Medical Care: Becoming a Savvy Patient” will cover what you should know to take control of your healthcare. We will talk about how to find the right doctor for you especially when it comes to outsmarting menopause. We’ll also talk about when you should call your doctor versus scheduling an appointment. We’ll also learn how to research a physician’s credentials, how to know when it’s time to seek a second opinion and how to confidently speak to your doctor. This seminar is all about empowering you as the consumer of healthcare so that you wisely spend your healthcare dollars. The Red Hot Mamas seminars are always free and open to the public. Grab a girlfriend or two and come find out about this unique time in a woman’s life. The seminar is in the Pebble Creek Conference Room at Portneuf. Doors open at 6pm; the presentation begins at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, visit portmed.org/rhm or call 208-239-1048.
