Portneuf Cancer Center Receives a Generous Donation

Portneuf Cancer Center – The Sisters of worship and ministry (WAM) at Gate City Baptist generously donated 76 care-giving bags to those patients who are undergoing cancer therapies. Each care bag is carefully packed with adult coloring books and pencils, blankets, homemade quilts, magazines, snacks and host of other very thoughtful and needed sundries.

“The cancer center was brought into our hearts,” said Shelley Briley, Director. “We are doing his work and we wanted to let people know they are loved and they are never alone.”

Throughout the year, the Sisters of WAM engage in outreach ministry. Their ‘stuff a duffle’ program provides toiletries and needed supplies to children who enter the foster care program and at Christmas they work with the Veterans Home. They too give generously of their time and talents to CASA, the compassion and hope pregnancy center, the free clinic, Salvation Army and Aid for Friends. In addition, Diana’s Closet, hosted by the men’s ministry, accepts clothing donations and provides for those in need.

If you are cleaning out your closet or would like to help support their ministries, they graciously welcome donations. Specific needs include fabric swatches, reusable fabric shopping bags, duffle bags, backpacks, yarn, rice, food and clothing.

A diagnosis of cancer can have many effects on a person’s life. Along with the physical effects of cancer, it can affect a person emotionally, financially and spiritually. It is often an enormous stressor in a person’s life and those who have strong social supports – good friends and family – tend to cope much better. We thank the Sisters of WAM for their support and care to all those in our community.
